Archaeological investigations of the Reed Gold Mine Upper Hill engine mill house (31CA18**1), begun in 1985, were continued
in December 1987. This site was used intermittently from the mid-nineteenth century through the early twentieth century to
process gold ore taken from the underground workings of the Reed Mine. These additional investigations were designed to continue the investigation of the archaeological features at the site and to assist in the eventual public interpretation of the site.
