Office of Economic Opportunity

Created by the Community Economic Opportunity Act of 1983, the Office of Economic Opportunity (OEO) is the state's administering agency for the Community Services Block Grant, Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program, Weatherization Assistance Program and Emergency Solutions Grant. OEO works in partnership with community action agencies and other non-profit agencies to administer and distribute funds for local initiatives designed to appreciably impact the causes of poverty.

The office was under the Budget and Control Board until 1968, when it moved to the Office of the Governor. The agency changed names in 1975 to the Division of Economic Opportunity. It is now under the Office of Executive Policy and Programs in the Department of Administration.
