Environmental Surveillance Oversight Program Data Reports

Permanent URI for this collection

The South Carolina Department of Environmental Services publishes annual Environmental Data Reports from the Environmental Surveillance and Oversight Program. This program supports and compliments the agency’s comprehensive regulatory program at the Savannah River Site (SRS) by focusing on activities not supported or covered through the normal regulatory framework. Their primary function is to evaluate the effectiveness of SRS environmental monitoring activities. The team monitors air, groundwater, drinking water, surface water, soil and sediment, milk, vegetation, and fish and game for the presence of radiological and non-radiological chemicals.

(South Carolina State Library, 2024-12) South Carolina Department of Environmental Services, Aiken Environmental Affairs Office; Environmental Surveillance and Oversight Program
South Carolina’s Department of Health and Environmental Control, or DHEC, (now the South Carolina Department of Environmental Services) monitors the Department of Energy’s Savannah River Site (SRS) for potential contaminants and produces a report of all its annual findings. Since this report was from data collected in 2023, it refers to DHEC, rather than DES, who published the report in 2024.
