The Charleston Museum has sponsored a program in historical archaeological research since the 1970s. The final phase of any archaeological project is publication of a site report. These usually have limited distribution (to the project sponsor, area libraries, and colleagues working on similar research). A site report contains all of the details of the project, from site history and fieldwork discoveries to enumeration of all artifacts recovered. Reports from special studies such as faunal, pollen, or parasite analysis are included in the site report. Beginning in 1982, Museum site reports received an ordinal number (for example: AC 11), as the Archaeological Contribution Series. Reports published prior to that date do not have this number.
