Abstract
Tongue tie, or ankyloglossia is a condition that is present at birth in some infants. The frenulum is the tissue that attaches the tongue to the floor of the mouth. If the frenulum is too short, too tight, or the attachment is too close to the tip of the tongue, the tongue cannot move properly and may interfere with breastfeeding. Symptoms in newborn infants can include: Infant unable to latch-on or to stay latched to the breast ; Nipple soreness that occurs soon after birth ; Infant weight loss or failure to thrive ; Reflux.
