In an effort to address HAIs and promote transparency in healthcare across South Carolina, the Department of Health and Environmental Control with the support of an advisory committee has enforced HAI reporting as mandated by the Hospital Infections Disclosure Act since 2006. This law requires the reporting of HAI data from acute care hospitals, critical access hospitals, long-term acute care hospitals, and inpatient rehabilitation facilities to the public. HAI monitoring promotes infection prevention activities within healthcare facilities to improve patient safety.Records, documents, and information made available by the agencies of the South Carolina state government or its subdivisions are made accessible through the South Carolina State Library Depository and are protected under U.S. Copyright law (Title 17, U.S.C.) and South Carolina state law (Title 30 and 60, S.C.C.L.).
