South Carolina Office for Healthcare Workforce

Abstract
Historically, the majority of physicians beginning their practice became professional entrepreneurs who on their practice or entered into partnership agreements with other physicians in group practices. Now physicians, especially new physicians, are operating in a job market largely driven by healthcare systems in their staffing needs. This data brief summarizes results from a study tracing the geographic migration patterns of new physicians who were in GME training programs in South Carolina in 2009.
