Focus Issue : effectiveness of volunteer guardians ad litem: what the research says
Abstract
Description
The utilization of volunteer non-lawyers as guardians ad litem or court appointed special advocates in child protection cases has expanded greatly in the past decade, both in South Carolina and across the nation. Following a brief introduction to this practice, this article will review the primary research studies which have examined the effectiveness of volunteers. These studies were not based in South Carolina, and this summary is not intended to reflect specifically on the effectiveness of volunteers in this state.
