Abstract
The county profile tables represent one way the Office of Vital Records and Public Health Statistics has strived to present Vital Records data in a concise, easily understood manner that serves the purpose of allowing the public to examine the data and draw inferences concerning changes in the status of an area or differences between two or more groups. These profiles have allowed such groups as planners, reporters, educators, legislators, health officials, and students to make projections, plan for expansions, set budgets, and highlight health problems to be reported to the community of interest. These "county-at-a-glance" sheets have been hand-tabulated and updated by the Office of Vital Records and Public Health Statistics since 1950. Mass storage of Vital Records data and advances in technology, however, allow the office the option of computerizing this information. Such computerization demands standardization of data that was inconsistent
in previous years.
