Abstract
Description
Few data are currently available for the SC cobia fisheries and these limited data should not be the basis of any major management decisions. However, the existing data do not indicate any problems with the stock. Three facts do stand out about cobia. First, boom or bust, the SC fishery will have little impact on the US stock(s) of cobia. Secondly, tagging studies have clearly shown that adult cobia exhibit strong site fidelity for summer and winter grounds. Thirdly, as far as the Atlantic recreational fishery north of Florida is concerned, the fishery is predominately carried out within the territorial waters of the individual states.
