Abstract
Fluoride prevents dental decay and encourages strong enamel surfaces on the teeth. Water fluoridation adjusts the amount of fluoride in a community’s water to a level that is safe and effective for prevention of dental decay. Medical and dental authorities endorse fluoridated water, which has been safely consumed by the public for 75 years. Community water fluoridation benefits everyone, including those who cannot afford dental care. For most cities, every $1 invested in community water fluoridation saves $38 in dental treatment costs.
