Modernizing Collections, Claims, and Reporting of Care and Maintenance Fees for Deceased Patients

Royals, Logan
South Carolina Certified Public Manager Program
Abstract
The South Carolina Department of Mental Health is statutorily obligated to collect fees for care and maintenance of patients that have died with an outstanding balance. While the current process yields funds, the process still relies heavily on sporadic checks of paper files. This project explores the need to improve that process to maximize its ability to collect funds from patient estates and meet statutory deadlines.
