Abstract
During 2006, DJJ, in conjunction with Clemson University’s Institute for Economic and
Community Development, conducted a series of community forums (“charrettes”) around the
state to gather public comments in regards to the role of the South Carolina juvenile justice
system. The following report is an attempt to synthesize the responses, identify the most frequently
mentioned ideas and to categorize them to serve as the basis for the development of an action
plan. It is organized into two sections: a summary section and a section outlining the specific
goals of the program.
