In 2002, the National Trust for Historic Preservation named Rosenwald Schools among the country’s most endangered historic properties. The SC State Historic Preservation Office and SC African American Heritage Commission began an ongoing effort to identify which of the state’s approximately 500 Rosenwald buildings remain. To date 35 schools and one teacherage have been found.Collections
