    Specialized alternative certification guidelines

    The State Board of Education has the authority to establish and amend specialized alternative certification areas and routes to meet the needs of South Carolina schools and students. These certification areas require specialized training but do not lead to the issuance of an alternative route certificate. In order to be issued an educator certificate in a specialized alternative certification area, the applicant must submit all application documents as required to include fingerprint-based federal and state criminal records reports, and must complete the specific requirements for that area as outlined in these guidelines for the Adjunct certificate, the Advanced fine arts certificata and the Montessori education certificate.
