Members of the S.C. General Assembly asked the Legislative Audit Council to conduct an audit of the S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control regarding possible changes it has been promoting to its workplace culture. The requestors were interested in the agency’s diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives; staff training; changes in employee hiring, promotion, and retention practices; and compliance with state and federal nondiscrimination and equal opportunity laws.
