Abstract
This booklet was developed to coincide with the nationally traveling exhibition, organized and circulated by McKissick Museum at the University of South Carolina. The exhibit, "Dawn of Freedom: The Freedmen's Town of Mitchelville, South Carolina" discusses the history and importance behind "one of the first self-governing towns of freed Africans in the country."
