People with diabetes often have oral health problems. Diabetes is a risk factor for gum disease and poorly controlled gum disease can have a negative impact on blood sugar levels. There is a two way relationship between diabetes and gum disease. A positive response to the oral health-diabetes link is stronger community clinical linkages that include diabetes screening for dental patients and dental screenings for patients with diabetes.
