Abstract
On February 7, 1874 Representative Alonzo Ransier delivered a speech, which was later published and distributed, asserting that African Americans’ resistance to punishing ex-Confederates demonstrated a desire for racial harmony and praising the black soldiers who fought for the Union in the Civil War.
