Coordinating Council for Workforce Development
The South Carolina Coordinating Council for Workforce Development (CCWD) was formed in response to a general need for improved coordination of efforts in the area of workforce development by those state agencies involved in the education and training of the South Carolina workforce. The CCWD was established by the General Assembly in Act 252 of 2016 to “engage in discussions, collaboration, and information sharing concerning the state’s ability to prepare and train workers to meet current and future workforce needs.” The CCWD is chaired by the Secretary of Commerce with nine additional members drawn from state agencies or entities involved in education and training, including a representative of the business community appointed by the South Carolina Chamber of Commerce. Employees of the South Carolina Department of Commerce primarily staff the CCWD, with assistance from the Commission on Higher Education and the State Board for Technical and Comprehensive Education.
