The State Board of Fisheries was created in 1906 by the South Carolina General Assembly to supervise commercial and tidal fishing along the coast. It was incorporated into the South Carolina Wildlife Resources Department in 1952. The Wildlife Resources Department and several other state agencies became the Department of Natural Resources in 1994.
