Advisory Opinion 2004-2010

South Carolina State Ethics Commission
Abstract
The question of whether a public official has an economic interest in the maintenance and repair of a city asset, which is before her government entity, must be answered on a case-by-case basis. In the situation outlined, the public official has an economic interest, but she is a member of a large class of property owners and thus she may participate in the discussions and votes.
