Preserving Columbia's past for future generations : is it still possible?

Abstract
This paper describes the 1993 Chicora Foundation study of the Arsenal Hill Park site, an antebellum neighborhood in Columbia, S.C., that was also the historical location of Palmetto Iron Works, a foundry operating until the early 20th century that produced weapons and other items; describes necessity of community support in preservation efforts.
