Abstract
A major factor influencing the health of individuals where public wastewater treatment facilities are
not available is the proper onsite treatment and disposal of domestic wastewater. Diseases such as
dysentery, cholera, infectious hepatitis, typhoid and paratyphoid are transmitted through the fecal
contamination of food, water, and the land surface largely due to the improper treatment and disposal of
domestic wastewater. For this reason, every effort should be made to prevent such hazards and to treat
and dispose of all human waste through the practical application of the best and most cost affective
technology available.
