South Carolina's New Public and College Library Buildings, 1965-1972

South Carolina State Library
Abstract
As new public and college library buildings were completed, the State Library published information about the buildings in its monthly "News for South Carolina Libraries." These summaries have now been compiled into a single brochure. The public library buildings include, with the exception of the Carnegie Library in Union, were all partially funded from grants under Title II of the Library Services and Construction Act. Grants were based on the population area served by the system or by the branch library. No grant was less than $50,000 or exceeded the $250,000 grant received by the Greenville County Library as an Area Reference Resource Center. Since no public library in the State was able to qualify for grant funds during the first year and a half of the Title II program, these funds were devoted to the construction of a new building to centralize the services of the South Carolina State Library.
