Abstract
In November of 2007, The Duke Endowment awarded DMH a $3.8 million grant to SC DMH to design and implement a statewide telepsychiatry consultation service for emergency departments in local hospitals. The stated goals included a timely assessment, early initiation of treatment, reduction in the lengths of stay, potential savings to hospitals and improved community discharge planning for both outpatient and inpatient follow-up services as needed. The program ended in 2011.
