Abstract
South Carolina Department of Natural Resources (SCDNR) values the opinions and experiences of our duck hunters and seeks to consider these in our recommendations for season structure and opportunities. As such we conducted a survey in October of 2023 to measure hunter preferences for duck season dates. The survey consisted of 19 questions designed to measure preferences for the timing of open segments and splits (i.e. closed periods) for duck season, as well as other preferences and hunting patterns. An invitation to participate in the survey was distributed via email to a random sample of 10,300 individuals who had purchased a SC waterfowl permit in any of the previous 5 seasons (2018/19 or later) and had an email address on file (n = 72,818).
