Flood Waters Rising

South Carolina State Climatology Office
Abstract
From 1993 through 2005, floods in South Carolina killed eight people, and caused over 87 million dollars of property damage. Floodwaters endanger lives in many ways. Floods are the second most deadly natural hazard eclipsed only by heat-related fatalities. Mitigation of flood risk is best accomplished with acknowledgement of the risk, logical site development, sound construction practices, and personal preparation near flood-prone areas before the storm occurs.
