Abstract
Four hundred sixty-eight water samples were randomly drawn from the potable water supplies in rural areas of Georgetown, Chesterfield and Hampton Counties of South Carolina. The samples collected covered 10% of the rural households and were evaluated for biological, chemical and pesticidal contamination. Ten percent of the water samples collected were selected for pesticidal analysis. Microamounts of various chlorinated hydrocarbons, particularly DDT and dieldrin, were observed in every sample but were always far below the established health limits.
