What is a clotted or layered unsatisfactory specimen?

Abstract
An unsatisfactory specimen is a sample that is of poor quality in which the Newborn Screening Results may be affected by the adequacy of the sample. This paper explains the reasons a specimen is deemed unsatisfactory, what layered or clotted means and how to prevent collecting a layered or clotted specimen.
