Whitten Village

Whitten Village, originally founded in 1918 as the State Training School for the Feeble-Minded in Clinton, SC, was a state institution for the care and treatment of mental health patients. It was renamed in 1952 for its superintendent, Dr. B.O. Whitten In 1967 it was placed under the new South Carolina Department of Mental Retardation, now the Department of Disabilities and Special Needs.
