South Carolina Tricentennial Commission

The South Carolina Tricentennial Commission was established by the Legislature from 1966-1970 to plan and prepare celebration events for South Carolina’s 300th anniversary taking place in 1970. Three major events were planned throughout the state starting at Charles Town Landing in Charleston, the State Historical Museum in Columbia, and Piedmont Panorama Pavilion between Greenville and Spartanburg. The commission also coordinated events with every county in South Carolina. All counties picked a week to hold celebration events with aid from the commission.
