A Dynamic Water Quality Model of Lake Greenwood, SC : Development and Application toward Issues of Phosphorus Loading, Algal Dynamics, and Oxygen Depletion : Final Report
(South Carolina State Library, 2008-03-14) McKellar, Hank; Bulak, Jim; Taylor, Barbara; South Carolina Department of Natural Resources
The main objectives of this research were to develop a database and simulation model of the lake to help predict implications of changing phosphorus loading. As currently calibrated, the Lake Greenwood model simulated basic patterns of water and habitat quality in the lake and offered science-based predictions of some consequences of phosphorus load reduction. The model could form an integral link in the tools available for effective watershed/water quality management in the Saluda-Reedy watershed.

Five Year Report to the Saltwater Recreational Fisheries Advisory Committee
(South Carolina State Library, 2013-10-04) Arnott, Steve; South Carolina. Department of Natural Resources. Inshore Fisheries Section
The primary mission of the SCDNR Inshore Fisheries Section is to monitor fish populations in the estuarine and near-shore waters of South Carolina. Over the last five years, funds received from the Saltwater Recreational Fisheries Advisory Committee (SRFAC) have helped support a variety of long-term fishery surveys. These surveys are essential for monitoring changes in fish populations over time and for understanding natural and anthropogenic forces that influence them. The surveys include a trammel net survey, an electrofishing survey, a longline survey and a trawl survey. The section also performs two fishery dependent surveys that record biological information from fish that have been harvested by recreational anglers.

Wateree River Heritage Preserve Wildlife Management Area & Love Farm Wildlife Management Area : Wetlands Management Review
(South Carolina State Library, 2024-08) South Carolina Department of Natural Resources
Wateree River Heritage Preserve Wildlife Management Area is bordered by the Wateree River and includes the iconic Cooks Mountain, 17 miles east of Columbia, South Carolina. The property encompasses 3,674 acres, with portions of two historic plantations: Cooks Mountain and Goodwill Plantation. Because of its rich cultural and natural resources, Wateree River is designated as a Heritage Preserve (HP), the highest protection in the state; and the Wildlife Management Area (WMA) designation allows for a robust public hunt program. The property was purchased by the Haile Gold Mine as a partial mitigation for a Lancaster County mining operation and was transferred to SCDNR in 2015. A portion of the property is under a conservation easement with Ducks Unlimited to further encourage the management of wetland habitats. The agency’s stated objectives for the property are to “preserve and enhance natural and cultural resources while restoring and enhancing jurisdictional wetlands and streams.”
