Annual report of the Department of Natural Resources on Act 51 123rd session of the South Carolina General Assembly (2023)
(South Carolina State Library, 2024-02) South Carolina Department of Natural Resources
Act 51 of the 123rd Session of the South Carolina General Assembly largely rewrote wild turkey hunting laws in South Carolina. It established new turkey season frameworks, imposed a limit of one gobbler during the first 10 days of the season, a daily limit of one gobbler, and it imposed a first-time fee on turkey tags. Act 51 also requires that “The department shall provide an annual report on the wild turkey resources in South Carolina to the Chairman of the Senate Fish, Game and Forestry Committee and the Chairman of the House Agriculture and Natural Resources Committee.” This document is offered by the department to fulfill that requirement.

Recruitment and growth of Edisto River redbreast sunfish : study completion report
(South Carolina State Library, 2005-12) South Carolina Department of Natural Resources; Bulak, James S.
Redbreast sunfish are a highly valued sport species in the Edisto River, South Carolina. The 2000, 2001, and 2002 spawning cohorts were produced during a period of prolonged drought, while the 2003 cohort was produced during a drought-busting flood. This major hydrologic change in the system provided an opportunity to inspect the effect of this change on the recruitment and growth of redbreast sunfish during drought and flood periods. Our research hypotheses for redbreast sunfish were: Increased spawning success during flood as compared to a drought year ; Increased growth during a flood compared to a drought year. The objective of this effort was to evaluate these hypotheses.

Charleston Harbor dredging project environmental assessment : biological and sediment composition sampling final report
(South Carolina State Library, 2013-07) Marine Resources Research Institute (S.C.); Sanger, Denise; Crowe, Stacie; Riekerk, George; Levisen, Martin
The United States Army Corps of Engineers is preparing a Draft Environmental Impact Statement on the feasibility of navigation improvements within the Charleston Harbor Estuary. One of the environmental effects of the proposed channel deepening is the potential for increased salt water intrusion within the estuary. This change in the salinity regime has the potential to impact the biological communities in the three river systems. This assessment provides results from quarterly sampling of the macrobenthic community, sediment grain size, and water quality at sites in the Cooper, Ashley, and Wando Rivers that have not been adequately sampled by the South Carolina Estuarine and Coastal Assessment Program.

Assessing effects of watershed change on phosphorus loading to Lake Greenwood, South Carolina : supplement : impact of point sources on phosphorus loading to Lake Greenwood final report
(South Carolina State Library, 2009-06-16) Taylor, Barbara; Bulak, Jim; South Carolina Department of Natural Resources. Freshwater Fisheries Research Laboratory
Our main report demonstrated that the nine major domestic wastewater treatment plants in the Saluda-Reedy watershed contribute substantial loads of phosphorus to the Saluda and Reedy Rivers. In this supplement we use watershed models to quantify the contributions of these facilities to the loads of phosphorus delivered to Lake Greenwood and to predict the impact of reducing the point source loads.

Assessing effects of watershed change on phosphorus loading to Lake Greenwood, South Carolina : final report
(South Carolina State Library, 2008-06-10) South Carolina Department of Natural Resources. Freshwater Fisheries Research Laboratory; Taylor, Barbara; Bulak, Jim; McKellar, Hank
This report covers work on a second study of water quality in Lake Greenwood and the Saluda-Reedy Watershed. This plan for the second study was build a watershed model to predict changes in phosphorus loading to Lake Greenwood resulting from changes in the Saluda-Reedy Watershed, using Hydrologic Simulation Program in Fortran (HSPF). The analysis of watershed data, presented in this report, permits the assessment of the strengths and limitations of the data and establishes a firmer understanding of the watershed processes.
