The economic impact of South Carolina’s arts-related economic cluster
(South Carolina State Library, 2023-02-14) Von Nessen, Joseph C.; South Carolina Arts Commission
The purpose of this study is to estimate the economic impact of the portion of the creative cluster in South Carolina associated with all arts, design, crafts, and related activities - defined specifically as the "artsrelated cluster." Arts and culture are essential to any region’s quality of life and local identity, and as such can serve as an engine of economic development through improving tourism and helping a region attract and retain skilled labor. This latter benefit is especially important in 2023 as South Carolina and the United States continue to face a significant labor shortage that has emerged following the COVID-19 pandemic.

    Strategic plan FY2021-2025
(South Carolina State Library, 2020-10) South Carolina Arts Commission
From October 2019 to March 2020, agency teams conducted 17 in-person meetings from the mountains to the coast and gathered additional input via an online survey that was offered in English and Spanish. More than 1,000 constituents shared their thoughts and opinions during the Canvass of the People 2020. From this public input, the agency crafted an updated vision, mission, and set of values that, along with the new strategic plan, will guide the Arts Commission’s work for the foreseeable future.
