Item 2023 South Carolina Adult Tobacco Survey Small Area Estimates(South Carolina State Library, 2023-07) South Carolina Department of Public Health, Tobacco Prevention and Control Section; RTI InternationalThe 2023 South Carolina Adult Tobacco Survey (SC—ATS) was designed to produce precise state-level estimates but does not have adequate sample size to make direct estimates to small domains with adequate precision. Direct estimates only use data related to the domain in question and the study design information (e.g., sampling weights and stratification). We apply a modeling approach to make indirect estimates to small domains. The statistical model leverages a model to make “indirect” estimates for domains that lack adequate sample size for direct estimation. The small areas described in this report include the 46 individual South Carolina counties and 32 domains composed of the cross-classification of sex, age category (18-24, 25-44, 45-64, 65 and older), and race/ethnicity (White NH, Black NH, Hispanic, other NH).Item 2024 South Carolina Youth Tobacco Survey(South Carolina State Library, 2024) South Carolina Department of Public Health, Tobacco Prevention and Control SectionSouth Carolina, and the United States overall, has seen large shifts in tobacco use over the past decade. The following report highlights overall decreased rates of smoking among youth; however, data still shows concerning rates of youth e-cigarette/vape use. While many of the same indicators are available for past iterations of the SC YTS, there are a number of tables that are either omitted or updated from this 2024 report due to the decreased prevalence of combustible tobacco use among youth in the state. In an effort to continue monitoring tobacco use in its most relevant forms there are new tables reported here, such as those reflecting e-cigarette quit attempts and intentions.Item 2023 South Carolina Adult Tobacco Survey(South Carolina State Library, 2023-07-12) South Carolina Department of Public HealthThe 2023 South Carolina—Adult Tobacco Survey (SC—ATS), is an address-based sample (ABS) survey of noninstitutionalized adults (18 years of age and older) residing in the state of South Carolina. The design oversampled Black non-Hispanic population members. Data was collected from 1,370 respondents, 337 of the respondents are Black non-Hispanic. Sampling weights were created to map the respondents to the population, thereby making the estimates derived from these data representative to the population. The response rate was 23.9%. The data collected was used to determine the prevalence of tobacco use as well as the factors promoting, and impeding tobacco use among adults in a statewide representative sample of adults. Some of the population estimates are presented in the 16 tables in this report.
