The South Carolina Child Early Reading Development and Education Program (CERDEP) offers many of the state's at-risk 4-year-olds the opportunity to attend a full-day education program. Over the past decade, the South Carolina General Assembly has expanded CERDEP funding to provide greater pre-K access to students in districts with high levels of poverty. The South Carolina Department of Education currently serves 62 CERDEP districts and two charter schools, nearly doubling the number of original participating districts.
