    Backpack conversations
(South Carolina State Library, 2023-11-27) South Carolina Department of Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse Services
This document is to help make it easier to talk to children about alcohol, drugs, tobacco, and vaping at an early age – or any age. The idea is to cut out these conversation starters and put one in a child’s school backpack or lunch a couple of times a week. Then, parents or caregivers can find a good time to talk about whatever is on the conversation starter. Not all of them are about alcohol and drugs. The point is to make short, frequent talks with children easier and more comfortable. The conversations are for grades Kindergarten through fourth grade, fifth through eighth grade, and for teens/young adults in grades nine through twelve and on.

South Carolina county profiles of alcohol and other drug use 2021 report
(South Carolina State Library, 2023-02-09) South Carolina Department of Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse Services. Technology, Research, and Evaluation Division
The purpose of this report is to provide a timely update to the latest data on substance disorder indicators for county planners. The present report is an effort to meet the recent request of counties for data assistance in the development of their 2022-2023 county treatment plans. The report includes charts and tables for over 18 indicators of county risk factors associated with the development of substance use disorders. The framework for reporting these indicators is intended to provide a simple tool for planners to utilize to help make data-driven decisions in support of prevention and treatment planning activities. We recommend that the report be used in conjunction with other local knowledge resources to provide the best results.

    PREP trainer's manual
(South Carolina State Library, 2022-05) South Carolina Department of Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse Services
Preventing substance abuse problems before they develop can be a challenging endeavor, but research - coupled with years of programming - has taught us that prevention is the most efficient, cost-effective approach. The Palmetto Retailers Education Program (PREP) is designed to encourage and promote partnerships between licensed alcohol retailers, tobacco retailers, law enforcement and communities - partnerships that are dedicated to preventing and reducing alcohol and tobacco problems throughout South Carolina.
