The South Carolina Department of Archives and History offers microfilm and document digitization as well as and security microfilm vault storage for permanent/historical state and local government records. The Department also provides microfilming guidance to state agencies and local governments through technical publications. Publications, in the form of information leaflets, provide additional guidance on microfilm concerns, from legal requirements to preservation.

And if your original records are to be destroyed after being filmed, that inspection is vital. Too often government offices that fail to test their film properly find their film has deteriorated when they need the information it held years later. Only testing can ensure the durability of film and the legibility of copies made from it.
